BANANAHAUS
Conceived during quarantine's extended hibernation, bananahaus, once those infected gates came unbarred, emerged from their musty basement to find a warm welcome in Vancouver's post-punk nerd-freak scene.
Expect overcaffeinated riffs, meticulous arrangements, and silly melodic shenanigans. Their Deerhoof-worship they wear openly, though listen closely and you may hear the ghost-notes of such numinous weirdos as Pere Ubu, Captain Beefheart, and The Raincoats.
On their first record, "welcome to the bananahaus," Tracey's lyrical ruminations featured observations of life around the haus, filtered through wordplay and absurdist humour. "grounders," their sophomore offering, uses similar techniques to explore the terrifying, feral, unhinged world of elementary school.
Times change, people move hauses, new collaborations blossom; bananahaus is no exception to such rules. Though they may no longer be hausmates, they're still totally bananas.
